Poetry

This week we started poetry. I have to say that its not my favorite thing to read. I was really starting to enjoy the short stories. Poetry to me is not a story, but thoughts that can make a point. I soon found this week that that was not the case. In "My Papas Waltz" we can see the brutal life this boy lived through a few short lines. He explains the pain and agony he had to endure each day his dad came home drunk. I now have a better understanding of how to interpret poetry.

I also enjoyed the short stories and wasn't looking forward to reading poems. But after reading chapter nine I developed a better understanding for poetry. Dulce Et Decorum Est by Own made you mentally picture what happened to those soldiers.

  2. Brianna,
I am glad you have changed your opinion about poetry. I also was beginning to enjoy reading the short stories, but poetry has always been one of my favorites to read. I believe that poems are an increble way of portraying a characters story.

  3. I too, enjoyed My Papa's Waltz. There are only certain kinds of poetry I like to read. Unfortunately most of what we had to read I didn't enjoy. There were a couple that I liked. My Papa's Waltz told a story in the poem that kept my attention. It brought out emotions by putting myself into the boy's shoes.
