The Gift of the Magi

This story had a meaning behind the plot. This was about a young married couple whom wanted to share some christmas cheer with each other, but had little monies to spare. The wife cut her long, lushes hair and her husband sold his gold watch. This teaches us the moral lesson of love and caring for those you do love. We see how much each were willing to spare in order to show them their love on christmas.

  1. I agree with your idea of just what the moral of the story was Brianna. It is not often in life that we are graced with the presents of true unselfish love; however, when one does find himself or herself in its presents, it is always unmistakable. This version of love that is depicted in "The Gift of the Magi," reminds me of the type of love that Jesus showed us by dying on the cross true unselfish and unconditional love. If there is only one thing I accomplish in my life it is that I can one day love as Jesus does.

  2. I also agree with you on the moral of the story. Rod, I didn't even make the connection to the death of Jesus! I appreciate you pointing that out. The idea of Della and Jim sacraficing their most valuable possessions for each other was touching, but seemed unrealistic. I was trying to think of a time that I might have experienced something like this and couldn't come up with anything. I wish I could say I've given up my most valuable possession in order to make someone else happy or show my love for them.
